Liverpool ready to hijack Antonie Semenyo deal from Man City
As 2025 draws to a close, Manchester City remain the leading contenders to sign Semenyo from Bournemouth. Last week, reports suggested that Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham were also monitoring the player, but City were clearly ahead in the race. Pep Guardiola’s side are understood to have held talks with Bournemouth and made contact with the player to discuss personal terms.
However, new reports indicate that Liverpool are prepared to move if the situation changes. According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool are not actively challenging Manchester City at this stage, but there are rumours that sporting director Richard Hughes is ready to meet Bournemouth to discuss a potential deal.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Liverpool have not yet contacted Bournemouth directly, instead speaking with the player and his representatives to assess the situation. Semenyo’s preference remains a move to Manchester City. His release clause is set to become active until 10 January, and Bournemouth and City are aiming to finalise the transfer in the coming days.
Paul Joyce, a reliable source close to Liverpool, stated that 1 January will be a decisive date. If Manchester City fail to complete the deal by then, Liverpool are expected to enter negotiations. Other English sources agree that Liverpool have so far only shown interest and are closely monitoring developments, without making formal contact with Bournemouth.
Semenyo has been Bournemouth’s standout performer this season, scoring nine goals and providing three assists in 17 appearances. He is capable of playing on both wings and has also featured as a forward. His current market value is estimated at around £50 million. The release clause allowing him to leave the club will become active on 1 January and remain valid for 10 days.
Manchester City have tracked Semenyo for an extended period as Guardiola looks to strengthen his wide options. With Jérémy Doku currently injured and Savinho not fully trusted by the manager, City are keen to add reinforcements rather than rely on young players in upcoming matches.
