Barcelona seek cut-price deal for Marcus Rashford ahead of summer 2026
After joining Barcelona on loan in the summer of 2025, Rashford quickly established himself as one of Hansi Flick’s key attacking players. He has registered seven goals and 11 assists in 27 appearances this season. Although his recent form has dipped slightly, Barcelona have still opted to keep him beyond the end of the campaign.
According to talkSPORT, Rashford has already been informed of Barcelona’s intention to retain him. The club are now preparing to open negotiations with Manchester United over a permanent transfer for the 28-year-old.
Rashford’s current loan agreement includes a €30 million buy option, though it is not mandatory. His contract with United runs until 2028, making the valuation relatively reasonable. However, given Barcelona’s ongoing financial constraints, the club are hesitant to pay the full amount.
Sources cited by talkSPORT claim Barcelona have recently discussed two possible scenarios with United. The first would see Rashford signed this summer for a reduced fee, while the second involves extending the loan into the 2026/27 season with a conditional obligation to buy.
Manchester United are keen to sell Rashford and believe the €30 million figure is fair. However, Barcelona hold an advantage due to the player’s stance. Rashford is said to be very happy in Spain and is not considering alternative options at this stage.
A return to Old Trafford appears highly unlikely, with Rashford no longer part of United’s long-term plans. Since Ruben Amorim’s arrival in late 2024, Rashford struggled for minutes before being loaned to Aston Villa and later Barcelona. Despite Amorim’s recent dismissal, the winger’s future away from United remains unchanged, as the decision to loan him out was taken by director of football Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada.
Rashford is also focused on securing his place in England’s squad for the 2026 World Cup. After losing his role during his time at United, he has gradually re-established himself under Thomas Tuchel, featuring in seven World Cup qualifiers. If he maintains his current level, the 28-year-old is expected to be a strong contender for a place in Tuchel’s final squad for the tournament in North America.
